Senior Management would visit the office and not bother to meet with employees. Often times they would leave the office and not tell anyone that they left. They would also come with no agenda - just show up to say they were at the office. Waste of time; lack of leadership.
Support from management
Very little support, if any. Management would visit office and usually sit in an office until lunch. Would leave to go home without telling anyone. Never had an agenda. Was interested in talking sports than with customers and brokers. Would publicly belittle sales team members without reason. Not respected in the industry for behavior at industry events or reputation with staff.
Departments would work well most of the time to accomplish company/office goals. Occasionally a request for assistance due to large volumes would be viewed as inability to manage work. It was management's way of finding a reason to remove someone they didn't like.
Freedom to work independently
Most of the time, had no choice as my direct report gave little to no advise on how to develop into a better leader.
Good most of the time, but many instances where you would either wait days or have to request multiple times for a response from leadership for a decision that you could relay to your team.
Mostly women in office. Management certainly requested specific women to attend public functions.
Did see many people get opportunities to work in other departments and move up through ranks. Like with other companies, not everyone that deserved a chance received that promotion.
Overall compensation for your work
Most positions paid at par to industry average.
Office / Work Environment
Clean, up-to-date tools, though new systems being added to provide support for past systems lack of functionality.
Occasional late hours end of the month.
Industry knows the technology isn't what the company says it is. Many brokers feel that they do not do payroll well and will never be able to compete with larger payroll companies. Some markets bought their books of business through acquisitions and sharing override with brokers.
If management wanted you out, your days would get numbered and they'd find a way to remove you, regardless of past results and not having any documented performance issues.
Highly regulated work that requires rules to be followed. Often no business decision needs to be made.
Inclusive / Diverse
Ideas were welcomed to make team feel they're a part of the big picture. Very often those ideas were simply ignored.
Suggestions for improvement
- In the short time there, it was evident suggestions won't be implemented.
What I like about the company
Most of the people were great.
What I dislike about the company
Always appeared to be a lack of a game plan. Senior Management jumped into a decision without fully understanding the payroll business they purchased and haven't been able to establish broker confidence.
