Suggestions for improvement
- I would allow for movement on the salary guide for teachers who get administrative certificates. It keeps teachers involved and incentivises ongoing education.
What I like about the company
The colleagues that I work with make the job worthwhile. The students are great and my department has a very understanding and dedicated supervisor who believes in her teachers. My principal has a very positive attitude and, along with the vice principal, is available more than willing to help out his teachers. I do know that I am lucky to have the supervisor I do, because I know other supervisors in other departments are more akin to micromanagers, and do not trust their employees to do their jobs. The students are great and outside of a few unique situations, the administration will always back up the teacher.
What I dislike about the company
There is a certain amount of cronyism in the administration and there have been occasions in the past where someone who messed up was promoted. This rubs the staff the wrong way. There is also no reimbursement or salary bump when a staff member gets an administrative certificate. This creates a financial burden for a teacher looking for career advancement and also forces them to look to other districts for positions. My district has lost several good teachers because of this.
