Company culture

My experience at Booksamillion was not a favorable one. Upper managers at the district level or higher were very driven by their own greed / power, and not by doing what was the best for the business or employees that worked for them. Before completing this review I was not surprised to see that this company has received a terrible company to work for rating the last 6 to 7 years straight. I wish I had Bern aware Of Their reputation before working for them, and having a terrible experience myself. I am not bitter, but I am honest. The upper management at the district level, and above did not follow through on the promises that they would verbally make. They often would set the store managers up to fail. They promoted people based on favoritism, and not on merit of who had worked to earn the opportunity to be promoted. Also they did everything possible to create an environment that make it hard to meet goals, and succeed do to budgets being set too high to staff as needed. They expected the salaried store management teams to cover too many unpaid hours, and operation their stores on a shoe string budget. They expected customer service levels to be met when there were not enough staff to cover all the bases needing covered. I wish I had never wasted my time giving my valuable time & energy to a company that never intended to give me a realistic opportunity to succeed, and build a long time career with them. Epic fail on my time & energy knowing what I now know.
