Suggestions for improvement

  • I can't think of much and frankly this survey is getting to be a bit too long.

What I like about the company

I have a supervisor who is also a great mentor. There are opportunities for advancement as well. The university provides a very competitive benefits package, including a Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan, discounted T-passes, dental coverage, 403(b) along with a match, and tuition remission plan (I got a Masters degree for about $500 - only had to paid registration fees). Another great benefit is that children of employees can get their undergraduate degrees here with a 90% tuition remission, so employees only pay for 10% of the tuition costs, which is a great benefit.

What I dislike about the company

I really can't think of much that I disapprove of.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Consistent communication between offices, clear and concise explanations of new policies from central administration that efficiently filter down to those offices they impact.

What I like about the company

A recent push toward more training opportunities has retained some more talent in our particular school. Excellent colleagues and depth of resources are top-notch. Also, working so close to multiple MBTA lines and so close to Fenway has great benefit. Benefits are also fantastic, as well as the discounts, partnerships, and tuition remission available to BU employees.

What I dislike about the company

There is a disparity of wealth distribution between colleges - some schools have a great many resources, while others struggle. Management training is not standardized, though BU is working on a management course.

Suggestions for improvement

  • A far better structure in terms of protecting students and far greater and more aggressive sanctions against tenured faculty. Tenure is not and never was intended to be a get of jail free card.

What I like about the company

I get to work with wonderful students whom I truly enjoy engaging in the grad questions of history and politics. The engagements with students on these levels are inspiring and they give me hope. I also get the opportunity to present at conferences and publish and all of that has been supported strongly by the university.

What I dislike about the company

I am concerned about the university's willingness to protect tenured faculty that clearly sexually harass students. One would have thought in this climate that this would not be the case but the university seems to never believe the victims. That is frightening.
