Bright Horizons prides itself on being there for families but does not always consider the well being of their employees. There is barely enough staff to get through the day and schedules are very tight. It feels impossible to call out of work or leave early (when necessary) due to illness, unexpected family issues, or staff's children becoming sick.
Teachers generally work together to find solutions to problems. There is very little help from management to resolve any issues that staff members come across.
There is little to no communication between management and staff. We are not informed of any changes for the day (whether a staff member is out sick, a food delivery is late, etc) and are often left to fend for ourselves.
Little to no chance of moving up within the company.
Overall compensation for your work
Staff are not compensated enough for the high workload that is expected on a daily basis.
Office / Work Environment
Some classrooms control the heat/cold air for other rooms. The temperature needs to be adjusted so all classrooms are comfortable.
Staff are not always friendly to one another. Problems between staff are not addressed between individuals, nor are they acknowledged by management.
Some staff are allowed to work short shifts while most are expected to work long hours to make up for it. Those with long shifts get a short break since there is not more staff needed to cover longer break periods for staff. Daily staffing is very poorly arranged. Weekly schedules go out the Friday before the upcoming work week. It is difficult to make plans and enjoy free time outside of work.
Enrollment of the program is low. If more children do not enroll in the program, staff hours may be cut which would put people in a difficult situation. Some staff may have to leave the company or go to a different location with more work hours to ensure they still have a job.
The location is in a huge complex with lots of security. To get into the program, you need a specific code that you are assigned as an employee or someone who is allowed to pick up children.
Working with children itself is not always easy, but the job is hard when we are not given the support we need.
