While no work environment is perfect, the overarching theme working across multiple departments is the appreciative attitude and team oriented environment exuded by everyone.
Support from management
Management structure is very flat. When something goes wrong management is more concerned with how do we solve a problem versus whose fault it is.
People seem to develop their own small fiefdom. That does not mean they aren't willing to help, it takes more pressure since there aren't regularly (more often than once a week) team meetings.
Freedom to work independently
Extreme level of autonomy if you don't do it, it doesn't happen. It means every employee is vital to the operation of the university.
Management is very communicative about large projects to the university. There are weekly internal communications about the on goings of the enterprise. The flat hierarchy makes it easy to get information from anyone on any level.
Low management hierarchy means there is no where to really move up. Just increase in compensation.
