Culture breeds distrust, there is no sense of community among staff or students. Nepotism & favoritism is out of control and communication is not free flowing.
Support from management
Upper management often made decisions without considering the impact to campus employees which usually resulted on delays in processing that negatively pacted emplyees and students with no managerial support to explain or rationalize those decisions.
Worked well as a team with in department and with other departments.
Freedom to work independently
Does not exist with this company
Too much unnecessary information keeps emplyees from effectively performing their responsibilities while needed information is often withheld or lost in the trickle down.
This is a good old boy system from top down.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There were few senior workers most new employees were 20 something's.
Again with nepotism and favoritism out of control you will not have opportunities with this company unless you know someone. There us no career advancement program or succession planning. They offer a range of personal development classes but because of schedule demands few employees can take advantage of those classes.
Overall compensation for your work
Initial salary ranges are good depending on the department but raises are minimal regardless of performance you are capped at a very small amount so it really doesn't matter if you work 10 times harder than anyone else you will get the same tiny increase. Salaries for the department I waa in do not match respomsibilities entire department is very underpaid. There is no 401k matching, insurance is costly, but PTO was generous if you had been with the company for a while.
Office / Work Environment
Ventilation could be better being as the campus is attached to a warehouse it can be an irritant for allergy sufferers. Systems would often crash delaying work but otherwise equipment was well maintained.
Noth in the least interested in environmental or social matters.
This is probably the area where tyus company has the greatest are for opportunity. I can assure you every employee you speak with will advise they have often not had their breaks, had to take lunches later than scheduled and work beyond their scheduled time to leave. Regardless of these facts you were not permitted to have overtime or penalized if you did. If you have a family you want to consider how much of your time you want to keep. I was initially told 1 Saturday a month but often worked 2 sometimes 3.
Most employees are there for a check and are sadly unhappy with the company and culture. Few current and prior employees speak highly of the organization.
They have laid off dozens of employees each year over the last 5 years. Last year they announced the closing of six schools as a resuming of us lost our positions. The company is in serious financial trouble including huge lawsuits.
Buildings are easily accessible but that's where it ends.
No OSHA training, no fire drills, tornado drills, emergency evacuation drills of any sort. No plan for hostile situations that would allow quick effective methods to communicate a crisis situation to employees or students.
Loved what I did but didn't appreciate the manner in whivh some task had to be performed.
Inclusive / Diverse
Many females in administration at yhe campus level but few minorities in managerial roles throughout organization as a whole, especially in corporate level. Yet their primary demographic of students seem to be minorities.
Suggestions for improvement
- Company needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. Employees need to have minimum bachelor's degree in admissions, FA, academics departments. Policies and procedures need to be standardized across campuses but go to the campuses first and find out what best practices WORK! Show your employees they are valued and they in turn will value their work and clients, the students.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
No appreciation for employees that performs their job well. No career planning, no opportunity for advancement, no diversity in management, institution of higher learning but many administrators have no more than an HS diploma or Associates degree and preach education to potential students.
