They say they are all about people, individual skills, and hard work but it's still a popularity contest when it comes down to it. If you're not cool and kiss up you won't get anywhere.
Support from management
Upper management left store managers to fend for themselves and make mistakes they were chastised for.
Within a store, teamwork is awesome and makes things fun. As a company it's just a competition between stores.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Very fair. If you can do the job it doesn't matter how old you are.

Overall compensation for your work
They pay very low for the amount of work you have to do to learn how to buy. Only store managers get paid decently, but then they have no free time to spend it.
It takes over your life, and they expect nothing less. Buyers are expected to learn off the clock, and juggle so many things while at work and still get paid minimum wage. So many of my buyers had to leave a job they really enjoyed because they couldn't eat, but when raising the baseline pay was mentioned, the board quickly shut any discussion down. If you asked for a day off (as management), you we're seen as needy.
You can be fired at any time.for any reason no matter how long you have been there.
Repetitive motion injuries are very common. Stores are falling apart.
Hardest job I've ever done. Very rewarding but not worth the toll it takes on everything else in your life. And you are never good enough for them.

- Pay your people more if you value them!
What I dislike about the company
Being taken over by the founders daughter who is money hungry and dislikes people.
