Support from management
Managers listen to issues present and work toward solving them in a practical manner. Their communication skills regarding "asking" someone to work additional shifts needs work ASAP.
Isn't too much good regarding this. If your colleagues are easily distracted and/or abesent-minded, you are pretty much alone for "holding down the fort".
Freedom to work independently
Depending on the post and/or shift it could be you alone or with a team. Under general circumstances you "should" be alright.
Information updates are last minute or not at all presented, causing issues that could be avoided. Also if the person you relieve isn't mindful for passing on information, you will have issues regarding following up on your shift.
Some of what you learn at the site can be transfered to alterante jobs, however there isn't a steep learning curve.
Overall compensation for your work
Generally a site is mosre than minimum wage which is helpful and appreciated. Raises only exist if promoted and/or you move to another site. However the other site could be higher or lower than the previous site. Insurance is offered, but if taken you lose a percentage of your check weekly for the coverage.
Office / Work Environment
Some locations are horrible regarding a post. When the temperatures change, you feel as if you are outside.
Vacations can be taken in different formats depending on what you want. The schedule is somewhat flexible when needed, however it can change and you receive no notification until you call to address the situation.
If the site contract ends for some reason or another, you could be without employment. No work, no pay until you are assigned another site and start there.
Duties differ from post to post, however the only training receivable is at the post for a specific shift. Nothing else available which might be good for someone just starting security wise.
Suggestions for improvement
- Living wages and raises for employees, possible additional training for security, the option to carry firearms at posts.
What I like about the company
Decent place to get your foot in the door for the security field, and pick up some skills along the way.
What I dislike about the company
Officers need the option to be armed, don't believe in raises under general circumstances, no additional training provided or available outside of posts, lack of communication between managers and non-managers, post issues are to be dealt with mostly by the one posted at the site (horrible environment climate, lack of proper shift and post briefing), living wage non-existant for non-manager and non-supervisor security.
