What I like about the company

The department I worked in was child support. My co-workers and supervisor was very supportive.

What I dislike about the company

Paying civil service to take test in order to get promoted with being top 5 high scorer.

Company Culture

Supervisors do commend the employees. The company however DOES NOT contribute to a work climate of fairness and trust.

Teamwork

There is a lot of backbiting amongst workers. Supervisors tend to listen to the "favored" employee versus assessing issues brought to their attention with all employees involved.

Freedom to work independently

This really depends on if the supervisor is a micromanager or not concerning structuring their own areas of responsibility. I believe the work is distributed fairly.

Internal Communication

Communication throughout the agency is lacking.

Gender Equality

Women do have the same career opportunities as men. They are not disadvantaged as returners to work.

Career Development

The Agency offers tuition reimbursement equivalent to Rutgers tuition. You have to be at the Agency for a year to take advantage of this.

Overall compensation for your work

The pay is not that great due to the loss of steps for employees on the new contract. You only get a pay increase through promotion. We have excellent health and dental and pension plan. We are paid on time. There may be an opportunity for overtime depending on which section you work in. Also the worker had rights under the union, CWA 1036.

Office / Work Environment

The temperature in the building fluctuates depending on where you are sitting. The heating/cooling system has been replaced but the problem remains. Some parts are extremely hot in the winter while another section is cold and in the summer some sections are extremely cold while others have no air.

Work-Life Balance

Vacation time for the most part can be taken at any time. Supervisors ensure that their units are covered so they all have calendars set up for employees to see who is off prior to requesting time. Working hours are based on seniority.

Company Image

The employees do not talk fondly of the Agency. Unfortunately the Agency doesn't take care of their people. The morale is low.

Job Security

This is a secure job due to alot of people needing assistance.

Handicapped Accessibility

We have a wheelchair accessibility ramp for disabled persons and an elevator. It is an equal opportunity company and does not discriminate against persons with disabilities.

Workplace Safety

We do have a health and safety committee that we can report safety issues to that is addressed expeditiously.

Challenging Work

I personally feel a sense of accomplishment because I always give 200% to my work.

Inclusive / Diverse

The Agency does support diversity. There have been cases where the Agency has adopted ideas from employees such as the mail drop off box and recently the converting of two large family booths into additional interviewing booths.
