Supervisors do commend the employees. The company however DOES NOT contribute to a work climate of fairness and trust.
There is a lot of backbiting amongst workers. Supervisors tend to listen to the "favored" employee versus assessing issues brought to their attention with all employees involved.
Freedom to work independently
This really depends on if the supervisor is a micromanager or not concerning structuring their own areas of responsibility. I believe the work is distributed fairly.
