Suggestions for improvement
- Ask for feedback on new equipment before buying full fleets of terrible vehicles and poorly made tools
When you make improvements, make them to last rather than just patching stuff to "get-by"
Break away from the other railroads to negotiate, you're already having problems finding people to work here.
Stop making system wide rules for one time instances
What I like about the company
I like the environment and it is improving over time. Job is as engaging as you allow it to be which I love.
What I dislike about the company
Communication needs improvement - massive amounts of emails are not healthy or effective
Equipment and Facility improvements are needed - equipment, vehicles, and tools break down almost weekly, shop lighting is poor, and yards are full of insane amounts of dust and pot holes
Hiring new employees hasn't kept up with attrition and we are understaffed and failing to keep up with increasing transportation demands
Compensation package is quickly falling behind standards: Accrual of PTO is insanely slow, no paid sick days and reprimands if you take a day off without PTO which again takes forever to obtain, no 401K match for mechanical at all, takes a minimum of a decade to see weekends off, no shift differentials at a 24/7 job, no discount on company stock, health insurance is terrible compared to other multi-billion dollar transportation companies,
