Dispatch and Managment practice favoritism wholeheartedly. Problem employees (those who value patient care, safety, working equipment, etc) are dealt with harshly.
Support from management
Management is incompetent and you are simply a number and a pawn.
While there are good and bad co-workers, the bad ones are really bad. They are lazy and don't take their runs and hence other crews get hammered with runs.
Freedom to work independently
Independent (and rational) thought is not appreciated nor tolerated. Asking for clarification or correcting management or dispatch when they (frequently) screw up is met with harsh reprisals.
If you enjoy being talked at and talked down to, this is the job for you. If you can't get your fill of being dominated and humiliated in your personal life, you will here.
Office / Work Environment
Prepare to work hard even when you're not busy. You'll be moved across the state from post to post, you'll shuttle units and equipment around the state, and if you're not the chosen one, you'll work a variety of shifts with no rhyme or reason as to what days or hours you work from week to week. You can't request off less than 35 days in advance but the schedule isn't typically posted until a week or two out. Sometimes when days out.
The company has fuel-pig units and drives them clear across the state for reasons unknown. With offices all over the state, crisscrossing the state should be a rarity, not a regular occurrence.
See comments above regarding scheduling.
The work is typically brainless. Every now and again it is mentally challenging, but mostly it's frustrating dealing with ineptitude, poor policies (the lift assist/barriatric stretcher policy continues to get people and patients hurt), and the hardest part of the job is maintaining motivation and energy to make it through the daily grind of dealing with people who should've never graduated high school.
Inclusive / Diverse
They are very inclusive, they have many mentally challenged persons in high-ranking positions.
Suggestions for improvement
- Treat employees like people, practice what you preach, and make it worth people's while to come to work.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
They are a bunch of lying, cheating, underhanded thieves. They will cut any corner to make a buck.
