Suggestions for improvement

  • Training needs to be more cooperative with employees and managers. Managers cannot expect employees to do everything if they are not properly trained themselves. Higher more employees to alleviate the stress of 'skeleton crews.' Get rid of your Club program 'goals' to better allow employees to help the customers and not feel pressured to sign people up for store loyalty. The focus should be on customer experience, which will help your sales concerns.

What I like about the company

My general colleagues were awesome to work with, within and across departments. The management team needs to be much more proactive for it's employees. Although I did not use it and it changed (downgraded) early 2018, the employee discount program is decent.

What I dislike about the company

Management favoritism is rampant in the building and is shameful. The training is mostly computer-based and not very helpful for the day-to-day scenarios you might yourself in. The hands-on training you are provided has very little followup and no encouragement to succeed.

Company Culture

It's all about those DAMNED credit cards- it's not about customers anymore. You could be the #1 salesperson for the week, but if you failed to convert at least 3-4 customers to credit card accounts, you might as well be the store janitor.

Support from management

REALLY depends on which store you work for. Some managers get it- others don't give a rip. It's all about working "together under the big green roof" aka- shut up, do your job, keep everybody happy regardless if you can make a difference. We don't want to showcase what management is doing wrong. Ever.

Internal Communication

Information only flows one way- down. If you have an idea, a critique, a suggestion- forget about sharing it with someone who matters. You will only get your hand slapped and have to continue to do things the hard way. Sad, but true.

they actually do this one pretty well.

Career Development

They totally stink at this. Forget what they tell you- you're stuck where you were hired.

Overall compensation for your work

HORRIBLE compensation for anyone under the top 3 managers at any given store. No matter how hard you work or hours you put in, you will be paid squat.

Company Image

Used to be great- geared more towards HUNTING. Now with Bass Pro- they are turning the stores into boat showrooms. Sad, you have to walk around the dang things just to get to the products that you want. Cabela's customers could CARE LESS about silly boats....stick them outside where they belong!

Job Security

with the recent merger, anything can happen. Again, toxic. Stay away until dust settles. NO ONE is safe anymore with Bass Pro calling the shots.

They suck at diversity. Big time. Walk into any store and look around.

Company Culture

The culture was pretty present and a constant part of talk, but rarely followed.

Support from management

I was sexually harassed by my LEAD. Went to my boss and HR about it and was told to drop it because I was "probably egging him on" and then targetted until transferring out.

Freedom to work independently

For the most part they expect you to be very self-reliant once trained.

Internal Communication

If you had a problem and wanted it resolved never go to the bosses. Mine would constantly sweep any issues under the rug and when I went to HR they did the same.

Gender Equality

Sexually harassed by my lead and got told I was asking for it.

Over half the workers were 50+

Career Development

I was able to move on to a great career path once I transferred to corporate. 3 years in retail trying to move up and not once was I able too.

If you worked under the right people it was great. But if you crossed a boss then expect to get targetted

Work-Life Balance

Seems flexible but if a favorite asks for the day off you did and it's the next day - expect to have to work that day now in that person's stead.

They were very concerned with image customers saw. Didn't matter what happened behind closed doors

Strong memorization or love of the outdoors will make or break you at this job.

Inclusive / Diverse

They had a very diverse range of workers out front. Back rooms were usually one girl and four guys.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Get a new HR rep and start taking sexual harassment seriously. Telling a woman she's asking for it then targeting them after they report it is in very poor taste.
