culture stated is good, reality doesn't match up
Support from management
under trained and under staffed, no support for the job itself..never had department meetings or reviews from supervisors..half the time they were not around
this place relies on a team because the managers are not trained and there is too much information thrown on to everyone.
Freedom to work independently
yes you have to from the start due to the training and no management on staff to refer to
absolutely sucks, everyone is trained on different things and even people who are trained for the same unit, don't learn the same information as the other team members- or they are only partially trained for the job
then tend to screw everyone doesn't matter if your male of female
Attitude towards older colleagues
they force you out of your comfort zone, you have to take training and new projects on or they fire you
Overall compensation for your work
when managers have to go to the food bank or sleeping in shelters every week because they can't make their rent or feed their children, there is a problem
Office / Work Environment
bull pen environment
there is no work life balance..you work for them and have no life- you have to adhere to a rotating schedule which they only give two weeks in advance and change at a moments notice, sometimes a half hour before your shift starts or ends.so you are constantly checking the schedule to see if you are working because if you don't make the scheduled shift its a no call no show...
there is no job security with this job, they fire at will.
the building is handicapped accessible when the elevator works... if it gets stuck you will be written up for being late for your shift..
no emotional or mental safety..physical safety was in question due to employee dis-satisfaction and inter office conflicts...there was an occasional verbal outburst in the office with one employee threatening another... they closed off one of the bathrooms because people were shooting up and drinking in the stalls....
only in the sense that they toss you under the buss by not fully training people
Inclusive / Diverse
there is diversity amongst the staf
Suggestions for improvement
- Fire the Human Resource Director and some of the top management staff. The Human Resource Director works for the company and not for the employees, her husband is the company's lawyer. Fire him too. Boost the Rate of pay for everyone by at least 4-5 dollars so people do not have to rely on food banks to feed their children. and come up with a training program that is better, come up with a different scheduling and vacation scheduling system that works for everyone... This was the worst managed company from a Human Resources perspective I have ever worked for.
What I like about the company
it was close to home
What I dislike about the company
the policies and practices are corrupt. Management has conflicts of interests. The Attendance policy is unrealistic so is the scheduling. their ability to change the employee hand book half way through the year so the employees were constantly at a disadvantage. The training of employees is incomplete and employees are often thrown under the bus... Their pay rates are also un-realistic for today's economy for their non management staff...As a former Human Resources Assistant Director, I was able to see and call them on things that were ILLEGAL...
