Company Culture

Variety of healthcare positions and expertise.

Teamwork

No. There are a lot of cliques amongst the nursing units. Very little interactions between administration and floor nurses. A lot of passive aggressive behaviors and bullying.

Freedom to work independently

Yes.

Internal Communication

Very poor communications. Should keep all emails and get things un writing to protect yourself.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Yes. They do expect the older nurses to keep the pace of younger nurses. Computer knowledge is needed despite age/previous experience.

Absolutely not.

Overall compensation for your work

You are paid time and a half for anything over 40hrs/week and shift differential.

The company does try to recycle and tries to limit waste.

Work-Life Balance

Families and education are not a concern for this facility. Calvert's priority is Calvert. They expect floor nurses to work 40-60 hours without complaint and little regard for staff burnouts. Vacation time and PTO days are often refused due to increased staff turn around or state minimal staffing requirements. Calvert encourages nurses to furthere their education, however, they will not work around your class/clinical schedule.

Yes and No. Calvert has the potential to be a great company. However the lack of respect and regard for their staffs health and needs are a disgrace to healthcare!

They are desperate for staffing.

Yes & No. The patients are wonderful. The nursing/patient relationships are amazing. The time permitted to spend with each patient is very limited and borders on neglect. Limited staffing places the nurses and cna's in a dangerous predicament at times.

Inclusive / Diverse

I believe Calvert values diversity. I believe Calvert minimizes staff opinions and doesn't allow for staffing to express their ideas with respectful feedback.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Get out of the office and onto the floor. Get out there and work alongside your nurses. It's easy to judge and criticize staff from behind a desk when you have no idea what goes on.

What I like about the company

I liked the size of the facility. It was a small town facility onced owned by a private family.

What I dislike about the company

Sold to a corporation, the moral and patient care declined.

Support from management

Housekeeping management lied continually. She would approve PTO then revoke it. When HR was made aware they would side with her and tell us we were lying.

Overall compensation for your work

Low pay. Double work than promised. Insurance is too expensive. No one can afford it.

Office / Work Environment

A pt had C-Diff. No precautions labeled on door before entering. No cart. No warning. When I pushed back about cleaning a isolation area that I was not warned about to be able to use apporopriate PPU I was told that the pt was on their first round of antibiotic and were no longer contagious. That is false.

Company Image

On paper they're a productive company. The turnover rate is an indication of the work environment.

Job Security

If you can handle it they will keep you. Most leave on their own.

Workplace Safety

No. No. No. Residents fall constantly. Families aren't contacted. OSHA standards are far from met. I worked as a housekeeper but I have a background in dental assistance and have completed OSHA classes and general infection control. They hire unaware employees and lie to comfort them about contracting pathogens.

Suggestions for improvement

  • New management staff. All of them.

What I like about the company

The residents are wonderful. They all love a good conversation and they are worth every minute spent dealing with the horrible management.

What I dislike about the company

Dishonesty from every management staff. Constantly.
