Freedom to work independently
We have a lot of freedom and even the lowest level on the totem-pole is a leadership role
People who stay for long periods of time will usually find a director position, but most people don't stay long enough for that to happen.
Overall compensation for your work
For the hours that program staff put in, there isn't a very hopeful monetary outlook.
Office / Work Environment
We have out of date Macs, but we hardly need computers, only a couple of weeks out of the year.
Vacation days are difficult to take, but there is a 6 week furlough during the holiday season and a week off at the end of summer. Other than that some employees are expected to work 112 hours a week. Most program employees have 14 hour days and at least one night shift on top of that. Depending on the season you get one or two days off of the weekend.
Everyone in the region loves the company.
Camp Courageous is pretty failsafe and a backup for many former employees.
Since we work with people with disabilities of all types we are one of the most if not, the most accessible job in the country.
We undergo rigorous training for safety of ourselves and those we serve.
Suggestions for improvement
- Allow tuition forgiveness programs, higher pay for the amount of hours.
What I like about the company
It is a very fun, accepting, and safe place to work. It hardly feels like a job most days. Some people try to stay there forever.
What I dislike about the company
We work a lot of hours, at least some of us do.
