This is an excellent company to work for. The pay is excellent for the Cape.
As a nurse , I find this company supportive to our needs. There is ample opportunity for education , supportive nurse supervisors, and excellent pay and benefits.
Support from management
I believe that at the manager level this is always a work in progress, but overall feel supported .
They have a great system of recognizing physician, employee, and volunteer of the month. On the hand, the manager is lacks in communication skills and find ourselves commonly not knowing about policy changes, etc.
Freedom to work independently
I believe at the higher administration level, this is true. But again, at times we are micromanaged at the manager level at times impeding on our ability to give the best care possible.
Top administration communicates very well. I find the nurse manager of our unit lacks positive communication skills.
I feel women are treated fairly and have ample opportunity for advancement.
Office / Work Environment
In our building , air quality is unhealthy. There is asbestos in the walls. We have excellent technology and IT support.
There is no recycling done on our unit.
This is where the manager is excellent. They understand the needs of families and I find our manager is very flexible.
I truly love my job, the employer, the people I work with on my unit. Several times a year, staff are recognized with gifts, and meals, raffles, etc.
Working in the heart of healthcare will always have its challenges. I feel we are supported in our endeavors to make the workplace as safe as possible.
Inclusive / Diverse
At the upper management level I believe this to be true.
Suggestions for improvement
- Other hospitals have contracts that include time off with pay ( does not come out of employees sick time), after being assaulted by a patient. We have had some significant assaults this year, and find this would be truly beneficial. Also, immediate employee assistance after significant events. Not waiting for an employee/employees to request but make it part of the response.
What I like about the company
I have found them to be understanding of the needs of families. No work place is perfect, but when I have had times where I feel I need support, the Directors have been willing to listen and talk through the issue at hand. There are many perks to working here, and I think having a new wellness group has been a great asset.
What I dislike about the company
I think more support at the manager level. More positive feedback and encouragement would go a long way.
