There is no trust because you are wrong or he is right.
Support from management
One guy runs the place. Doesn't matter what anyone else says. Never once had a chance to review my supervisor. 100% top down management.
Teams can work together, but as soon as one guy comes around, everyone hushes...
Freedom to work independently
Minimal. There's a few that hand out rules, a few that follow them, but even fewer that do both.
Few meetings that give out comprehensive results. Once every 6 months there's an "oh-rah" meeting by people who don't know the 35 that work for them.
Same opportunity for sure. Women hold all positions here.
Attitude towards older colleagues
This is an environment not condusive to the elderly. Older workers (late 50's) are present and perform fine.
Development is available but it's only to make people feel good. There are only 38 total jobs and 0 turnover above entry level so there is no room to move. No criteria is established for development. There is a yearly review but nobody will ever bring it up until the next one. They do the formal process but it is all a one direction process.
Overall compensation for your work
Being paid is a non issue. They know there is no competition in the area and then pretend that they a 25% pay cut when they bought the plant was to be competitive. While all the big wig show up in new cars, brag about company party expenses, and things that they do for the community.
Office / Work Environment
Took 7 years to get the AC to work in the plant but when someone else's AC was damaged (who is on site 2x a week average at best), it was fixed in a week.
This is something that nobody would disagree with at all.
Hours are similar to any production facility hat runs 24 hours a day. There is ample vacation and paid time off that is easily used.
No employee brags about working there.
Stability is so good they wouldn't get rid of the people who have screwed up because the local "image" might be hindered.
This is a job that, outside of the front office, mandates lifting and bending. Most of the site is accessible for tours by everyone.
Training I given to the minimum but no thought to retention is given. Way too much "don't look over there" happens. One main guy does what he wants but don't do like him or you're in trouble.
It is easy to feel unimportant at a production facility. The work is routine but not easy.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diverse people are welcome but realistically it's not a diverse area of candidates. Diverse ideas, no not at all.
Suggestions for improvement
- Let people give the recommendations that are asked for without making everyone feel like we are unimportant. I'll say it again, one guy runs it and the higher ups are to removed to do anything about it.
What I like about the company
Small company that isn't awash in corporate culture.
What I dislike about the company
One guy runs it and you'd better know how to say "yes sir."
