It was encouraged for all interns and employees to visit all other departments and experience what the other divisions were doing.
Support from management
My supervisors were excellent and made sure the position fit me and my interests, as well as being flexible to my University requirements for the internship.
Freedom to work independently
In addition to helping with daily tasks, my supervisors incorporated an individual project of my choosing into my internship.
I noticed no difference in how I was treated or how my coworkers responded to me in comparison to my male equals.
Office / Work Environment
During slow periods, interns were encouraged to explore the science center on their own to be able to give better recommendations to visitors regarding offers and experiences.
Due to the incorporation of the individual project component of the internship, I felt like this internship allowed me to really develop personally and as a scientist.
What I like about the company
CSC had a clear focus on education and incorporating fun into learning for children in the area of science. There was also a focus on encouraging employees and interns to personally experience the Science Center and attend the various shows (also encouraged during working time if things were slow) in order to be able to inform guests and make the best possible recommendations for them and their children as far as which activities were appropriate.
What I dislike about the company
As a large part of the employees at CSC were volunteers, some felt that it was difficult to make the transition between volunteer and paid staff. I have no personal experience with this problem as I was only there as an intern and did not apply for a promotion to paid staff.
