The job description was very vague and I was never clear about exactly what my role was in the company. It was very open-ended.
Your job is based on how much work they have. With their type of company, there are so many variables that can influence the amount of work. They need to be more careful with hiring during challenging times like that, only to let people go within a few weeks.
They gave me menial tasks and were unclear about where these tasks would lead to in the future. They conveyed it would lead to growth but they were not specific enough. They let me go due to lack of work, but they were unorganized about my role to begin with.
Suggestions for improvement
- They need to be more specific with what they are looking for during both the hiring process and during employment. In my case, it seemed as if they were still figuring out exactly what they were looking for when they hired me, so I felt like I was an experiment. They should not hire people if they don't have a clear idea of what they want from them. Otherwise, the arrangement is doomed to fail.
What I like about the company
They foster a positive, laid back environment and their incentive to hire hard-working individuals with diverse levels of experience and talent is very valuable.
What I dislike about the company
They need to improve their communication and be more clear about their expectations with their employees. I was let go without warning and while I later realized there were things I could have done to improve my performance, my supervisors praised me and provided little feedback. In addition, they told me I would be working towards an engineering position from an administration position, but they were not specific enough about what EXACTLY I was working towards. This made it harder for me to know exactly what they wanted from me which made it harder for me to be successful.
