What we offer

What is special about working for us?

Working at CBS Interactive offers the best of both worlds — an advancing, digitally-based environment coupled with the history of a media giant. Whether your dream job is in tech, entertainment, sports or games, build your career here and help create the content we all love.

Aside from the numerous opportunities to swap ideas and attend training sessions, employees define the office’s culture as one rooted in social happenings and out-of-office friendships. Therefore, when teams aren’t attending large industry events like E3 or CES, they head to group events like Paint Night in the Park or Third Thursdays—both of which involve good food and friends.

How would we describe the company culture?

The office’s location and bustling atmosphere help CBS Interactive combat the stigma that large companies have fragmented cultures. Employees are encouraged to create and maintain far-reaching relationships across all departments and cities—which typically start in monthly happy hours or impromptu team gatherings. The casual environment also promotes a rare form of professional camaraderie that benefits output and job satisfaction.

Application advice

Advice to applicants

When applying for a CBSi position, make sure that your resume and qualifications are in line with the information listed in the job description before applying. Our hiring teams are diligent about creating job descriptions that accurately and appropriately describe the requirements and qualifications necessary for the job. So, as a candidate, please update your resume to reflect your background and experience as it relates to our open jobs.

Preferred application method

We prefer all applicants to apply directly online either through a designated job board where our role is posted or on our career site at: https://www.cbsinteractive.com/careers

Selection process

We have an internal recruitment team that reviews and processes all of our candidate applications. Once you apply, our recruiters will do a first review of your application and resume to verify if you are a fit for the role. If so, they will do a first round of phone screens with you to learn a little bit more about your background and qualifications. After the initial phone screen, if the recruiter still believes you are a fit for the role, they will send your application to the Hiring Manager for review. Hiring managers typically do a second phone screen and then in-person (or video) interviews with the team before making final decisions.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Annual meetings to discuss employee growth take place. However, I feel that providing actionable interests would encourage employees to more actively strive for a goal with the expectation that there is something constructive and beneficial for them in the end.

What I like about the company

Although I am fairly new, colleagues have worked to include me and keep me a part of the group by encouraging my presence at team outings to foster growth and inclusion.

What I dislike about the company

I have a feeling that internal mobility may be a difficult task. It appears that most teams are small and like to keep their own for extended periods of time. I've experienced this at other companies before so I can identify when employees feel that they are worn down or not able to express interest in other areas confidently because of the notion they would not be given permission to move around.

Support from management

There is zero support from upper management. Research and data are eschewed in favor of personal likes and dislikes of a single head honcho.

Teamwork

Coworkers are great, but egos of upper management get in the way of any innovation

Freedom to work independently

There is no trust between work being done in the trenches, and upper management

Internal Communication

Communication is almost nonexistant, or if it does exist, is often selective based on personal agendas

Overall compensation for your work

Below average compensation

Office / Work Environment

The wifi in the Burbank office is absolutely terrible. I spend a good portion of my day just trying to maintain connection. Certain areas that are preferable to work at (such as the couches) are pretty much dead zones. As a company focused on technology, how can we be so lacking in something as basic as wifi?

Gender Equality

I know one female engineer, and dozens of male engineers.

Overall compensation for your work

I am concerned about how the disparity between my worth as an engineer and my financial compensation will change as my skills increase I become more valuable. Also, I find that the "one week more of PTO for every five years of working at the company" is grossly inappropriate for someone in this industry and could be made more progressive, such as an extra two days of PTO per year of working at the company. CBS Interactive could retain engineers much more often with better compensation options.

Environmental Friendliness

Company culture should focus more on recycling, explaining the benefits of it and do more to encourage employees to recycle.

Work-Life Balance

There's a fair amount of work to do as an engineer, which I'm hoping will calm down as my skills improve and I become more efficient.
