- CCA Eden Detention Center15.Dec 2015
Company is money motivated. The more inmates in the bunks, the more money that is accumulated. Sending an inmate to SHU for bad behavior is severely looked down upon by leadership due to the "extra work" an investigation causes.
Support from management
Extremely uneducated leadership. Will repremand officers before accepting an officers write up for an inmate. Leadership will not reprimand inmates due to the fact that they do not want to put in the extra effort to investigate a situation. The leadership at this facility is the only reason good and sincere officers who believe in justice, leave.
Employees do not work well together because leadership picks favorites. Leadership prefers a lazy officer who will not cause more paperwork by writing up an inmate, to an officer who has morals and is educated on the criminal justice system.
Freedom to work independently
This job works Panama (12 hour) shifts with no breaks. Leadership will walk outside the facility to waste time, smoke, etc. While officers are restricted to their dorms, recreation yard, etc. Leadership may or may not send you relief for a restroom break.
Leadership is extremely uneducated and hard to talk to. Leadership tends to blame the officer for doing their job and writing an inmate up for bad behavior because it causes them more paperwork.
Attractive women are treated badly by female captains. All other aspects are decently equal.
Advancement is possible if you lay low and not punish inmates and become a favorite of leadership.
Overall compensation for your work
Paychecks are on time. Money is not worth dealing with the leadership.
Office / Work Environment
No breaks. Volition inmates at time. No back up by leadership.
No AC in certain buildings in the facility in the heat of Texas summer. No breaks for officers working outside on 12 hour shifts. No breaks for any officers.
You CAN take days off, surprisingly. These are 12 hour shifts. But they do force overtime on you.
Stable job, so long as you ignore the goings on in the prison and do not cause leadership any extra work.
Company does not comply nor train their employees OSHA standards.
Dealing with inmates and trying to make them better people is satisfying. Dealing with leadership who does not want you to do anything at your job but be there, is not.
Inclusive / Diverse
No diverse or opinions are accepted at this facility. Uneducated leadership wants officers they can brainwash, not officers who've studied the CJ system.
Suggestions for improvement
- New leadership, more training
What I like about the company
Not a bad job, if leadership wasn't so terrible.
What I dislike about the company
Leadership is uneducated.
