There is a lack of communication at my place of employment. This and staff cliques create a negative working environment.
Support from management
Often feel I am fighting the admin to do what's right for my students.
My building is full of cliques between staff members
Freedom to work independently
Staff are trusted to put in the hours required. Some do, some don't.
Historically has not communicated well, but is starting to improve.
My profession typically has more women than men. Maybe not in administration though.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Actually, older employees are let off easy when they start slacking off on their job, or not keeping up with technology or new methods of teaching.
There has been, but our district is starting to prevent upward movement.
Overall compensation for your work
I don't make as much as others who have the same education but a different field.
Office / Work Environment
Everything is brand new, but the building is still always either too hot or too cold.
Yes. We have a recycling program and our custodians do a great job.
I'm a teacher, which is a career that provides that work-life balance. Vacations, etc.
Now I am. Not is the past.
I have tenure and do a great job.
Everywhere but our soccer fields are accessible
Need to do more. Our students try to bring weapons to school, and two years ago a student brought a gun to school and killed himself.
I work with students with a wide range of needs, which can be difficult. Also, the head counselor at my school makes the job of the teachers more difficult by screwing up the student's schedules.
Inclusive / Diverse
My school values diversity, it's just we don't get many applicants who are diverse.
Suggestions for improvement
- More counselors who are assigned to specific jobs.Mental health support for students. Less surveysMore useful training, instead of training that is a waste of everyone's time.
What I like about the company
I love my co-workers. We work very closely together as a team of four people. Together we do what's best for kids. I also have had the flexibility to get more education and change my position to something that makes me a lot more satisfied. My job is stable, and I don't have to worry about losing it. Also, there is usually a way to make additional money.
What I dislike about the company
Lack of communication, administrators favoring some employees, some employees getting away with not doing their job, administrators not handling conflict equitably, not enough counselors to handle the amount of students, not enough crisis or mental health support for students and staff.
