Awful place to work, but the customers are great!
There is no "culture" at Centaur Forge
Support from management
When I was employed there everything was very hush-hush.
The other employees and I worked well together, but the supervisor was very indirect and was not open to new ideas
Freedom to work independently
With only three office employees, the workloads are ridiculous. You are expected to take on four to six different titles at a time and get paid for only one of them.
P & L statements were shared on a monthly basis.
While most of the office employees are women, when they were seeking a new shipping/receiving person, the supervisor would not consider a women for the position.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I was hired to replace an older employee that they were trying to get rid of.
There are no advancement opportunities at Centaur Forge.
Overall compensation for your work
Raises are not given, reviews are not timely, the salary offered is below the state standard, you are expected to take on multiple rolls and get paid for one - for example, I was responsible for customer service, purchasing from 15 vendors, LTL shipping, creating shipping reports, overseas correspondence, working in the retail area, A/R, marketing, processing orders, just to name a few.
There are no benefits offered.
Office / Work Environment
The office was freezing in the winter and hot in the summer as the office is attached to the warehouse/retail section which is not climate controlled. the ventilation is horrible. Every area, with the exception of the shop area, is extremely unorganized.
They sell coal and make coal forges, so no, there is no environmental awareness at this company.
Vacation days must be pre-approved and cannot be used during the busy season (Spring - Fall). The work hours rotate on a weekly basis with shifts from 7:15 - 4:30, 8:00 - 5:00, and 9:00 - 6:00. The holiday schedule fluctuates from yer to year as far as which ones are recognized. During the special events that they hold , you are expected to work 10 + hours (including set-up and breakdown) for less than your normal pay rate. IF you do not work extra hours, it is held against you without being aware of it.
Organizational restructuring happens behind closed doors. I did not feel like I ever knew where I stood.
There is no safety training. Employees were constantly worried about OSHA.
There is a sense of self-pride that you are allowed.
Inclusive / Diverse
They are not very open to change or new ideas.
