Company Culture

It's all smiles and handshakes to get you into the plan. Once your in, after some time, you'll find it's not fair and only a fool would continue to trust.

Support from management

Upper Managment is completly removed from and unaccessable by the driving force.

Teamwork

You're on your own - sink or swim. Sure they offer solutions to problems but you signed so, you pay while they proffit.

Freedom to work independently

Totally biased. If, for some reason they don't like you they can starve you out. You default the lease, they get the truck and start over with another driver. Better do as you're told once you sign.

Internal Communication

Working dialogs are non existant and communications are one way. From them, to you.

Gender Equality

Tottaly equal - men and women alike. Two ears, two eyes, two hads and feet and, you fit behind the wheel. Your in driver.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I believe Central prefers the uneducated and untrained for obvious reasons although, I am appreciative to have enjoyed the top of their payscale upon hire for the experiance I have. Thus the finacial incentive to sign a lease was non existant (as far as I was concerned - Central tried every week to get me to sign.) however eventually if you don't sign, you will be moved out.

Career Development

Eat, sleep and drive. Don' be late. Repeat.

Overall compensation for your work

As a company driver without a lease and with the many years of OTR experiance to support me I made fair to good money on average even with a payscale thats under average for the trade. From what I observed about leaseing with Central a very few, a handfull of "their boys" make decent money. Of the remaining, plenty are just getting by but the majority fail to make enough to support a family, mortgage and truck lease payment. Reposed and dismissed, they are easily replaced with another Central Truck Driving School graduate.

Office / Work Environment

Typical abusive traits of the transportation industry with regard to perishable commodities. Central doesn't attempt to be better and in several ways makes it worse /dangerous.

Environmental Friendliness

I observed a total disregard for any environmental concerns. Socially they are very much aware of non LDS but only respond positively to matter that do not conflict with LDS doctrin or instructions. To be fair, these traits are not isolated to Central and are more typical of the entire state. For example, recycling in Utah is practically non existant and aluminum cans are everywhere. Mormons are discouraged from drinking soda or beer so, little incentive / little concern. Recycling / social needs outside of Centrals norm - unfortunatly are too often considered not their problem.

Work-Life Balance

As an experianced driver I'm used the the work demands of the industry. But, I had problems with an approved short duration leave of absence that Central abused without discussion.

Company Image

Of the employees I conversed with most where drivers. Most were lease holders and most of those had complaints about income and expenses. I would rate the overall image of Central to be - Discouraging

Job Security

Bad credit? You can't lease a truck so, your not in. Get in, don't lease a truck (like me) and most likely, sooner or later will be shown the door. For me, it took just under a year. I never felt Central offered me security or a career. I believe Central knows that to most, they are just a stepping stone to better and more.

Handicapped Accessibility

I believe the most they have to offer is a company van with driver to take the handicap and disabled to a nearby Walmart.

Workplace Safety

In a word - no. There is much to be concerned with inregards to Centrals programs. Best advice - be alert of those around you. Be scared, be safe.

Challenging Work

I'm proud of my professional driving carreer and 3,000,000 accident free miles. Central takes a huge risk with their work plan and you will feel fatigue and stress far more often than a sense of accomplishment.

Inclusive / Diverse

Central drivers are well instructed to conform with hous of service rules and always under the watchfull supervision of Qualcomm. You will eat, sleep and drive when told too. To the max. You will not explore, vacation, shop, sociallize. Most likey you will be too fatiqued and broke so you will not exercise or eat right. You will become fat, lazy, disgusting. Then you will become sick, bored, depressed. Considering Central offers no room for advancement or diversification consider your choices, your plan carefully, before you sign driver.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Be better. Be honest. Set goals that are not solely measured on a monetary scale but also include a diverse value of the human elements and actively strive, with equal effort as applied to earnings, to achieve more for the future. In many ways I view Central as a unfocused consumer. Not as a worthy or enlightened provider. Changes are coming, are here in our portion of the globe. Consider that a very good defense is having people at your back, not under your feet.

What I like about the company

Now I know this is going to sound sarcastic and disgruntle but I am totally sincere. The best thing about Central, the things I enjoyed the most when I was one their properties and not making money driving down the road, are the trash cans. Their dumpsters are like gold mines. You wouldn't believe what they throw away. The disposable mentally filters down from the top and some of the best contributors to this wealth are the drivers. Those having some success and replacing slightly worn for bright and shiny and those poor unfortunates discharged or broken lease and unable to take all possessions home.

What I dislike about the company

Soon after hire my gut told me don't trust Central. Almost a year later my experience proved my gut right. Drivers are too often a disposable commodity for the privileged on salary to use and abuse. Central doesn't appear to give due consideration to a valuable resource.
