Support from management

The leaders are two brothers that refuse to hire enough management staff, and a wife who's only a figurehead president. The mom is the accountant. They operate via fear and intimidation. They are rude, disorganized, dysfunctional, and overall inexperienced in the asphalt paving business. Their paving often fails testing, after which they fire the current paving foreman, who is really the scapegoat. Somehow they keep winning government contracts, likely thru underbidding.

Internal Communication

Information is specifically hidden from employees as much as possible, e.g. vacation hours earned, leave and disability, workplace injury processes, etc. Money and profits are never disclosed. Only the owners of this corporation know the info.

Gender Equality

They lure in a diverse staff, but the turnover is extremely high, no one is long-term, or more than 1.5 years. A long-time employee is only about 6 months.

Overall compensation for your work

Most are underpaid for their position. The unlucky employees that are salaried and not hourly are forced to work 70-80 hours per week. Employees earn one week of vacation per year, if they can make it that long.

Office / Work Environment

Hostile work environment. The owner screams and curses at employees, doesn't allow lunch breaks, and regularly fires employees for trivial things, e.g. stopping to eat lunch, taking a sick day, or not meeting the 60+ hours of work they demand. Employees are overworked and underpaid. The boss sends workers home early on Fridays, since it's an overtime day.

Work-Life Balance

Vacation days are not encouraged, and employees are badgered for asking for hours off that they have already earned. Employees are threatened with losing their jobs when anything more than one day is requested.

Company Image

Vendors are paid months later; the smart vendors they use ask for payment up front.

Job Security

Every day is stressful since each day could be your last, since people are fired so randomly.

Workplace Safety

Employees are not trained on what to do in an accident, and injuries are swept under the rug.

Employees are diverse, but their opinions and ideas don't matter and are not welcomed.
