Had some nicer people to work with, but management was under qualified.
Support from management
It was encouraged, but didn't happen often.
Freedom to work independently
There wasn't a single department at that company that wasn't micro managed.
There was one annual review and they always made sure there was one bad part of your review just so it looked the management was doing something.
There were plenty of women in this company, but most were not in management
Attitude towards older colleagues
Employees over 45 were treated wonderfully
I was never moving up in that company, no matter how much education or training I had.
Overall compensation for your work
Health care was paid for so that made the compensation bearable.
Office / Work Environment
When it was really cold or hot, they would say the building was just too big to temper properly.
There were recycling bins and they asked employees to stop printing so much, but that's about it
Great benefits including time off
Glad I got out of there.
It was a very stable position, as long as you show up, you couldn't get fired.
absolutely had everything ADA compliant
plenty of fire drills and it one of the safest neighborhoods in the state
It was the easiest job I've ever had. Didn't have anything to do on most days.
Inclusive / Diverse
No one was allowed to ever challenge an idea. The typical saying was "well that's how it was done before".
Suggestions for improvement
- Definitely make it easier to report poor management. There should be better processes when it comes to hiring people. You don't always have to hire in house. Some times I would be better not to.
What I like about the company
I met some wonderful people there. That's the benefit of a larger company. You have plenty of people to interact with and it makes some of the rough parts of a stubborn, stuck in their ways, boring job a little easier. The time off was helpful to enjoy time with family. The health care was paid for and it was good coverage. The flex time was helpful for those who commuted from long distances.
What I dislike about the company
Upper management has no idea what they're doing. They couldn't perform the jobs of their employees if they were forced to. They just hope that nothing happens to their employees so they can collect a paycheck. They don't want to think for themselves and just say "well that's how it was done before". It was exhausting working for under qualified managers.
