The work is not difficult and the clients are mostly easy to deal with. Co-workers are pleasant and the offices are fairly private (no cubicles). Work is pretty independent and laid back, just a lot of hours.
Extremely old fashioned. The women have to wear skirts or dresses, heels, and panty hose, no pants at all. Work is 6 days a week, usually between 50 and 60 hours, more during quarter and year ends. Pay is very low and there is no real paid time off. You get a week of vacation after working a year, but you have to take it all at once and only during August or June (caps at 2 weeks after 2 years, but same rule applies). So, if you are sick, or even if management decides to close the office for a holiday, you just don't get paid. Management has a very passive aggressive approach towards dealing with issues; never direct, so issues don't get handled well. No care at all about the environment. Tons of wasted paper, no recycling bins in the break room, huge power wasters, ect. Turnover is high in certain departments. If you arrive after 8:30, you can't clock in until 10:30, so if you're going to be late, they want you to be VERY late (one of those passive aggressive things). And if you forget to clock in or put, management recently passed out a memo stating that you just wouldn't get paid (which is illegal). Management often sends mixed signals and instruction, causing confusion, and there is no established chain of command and no HR for employees. There is very little organization. If things get done productively, it's just by chance, no real method.
The executive staff is the definition of questionable ethics. Snap decisions are made without thinking of the consequences or who has to handle the fallout.
Certain departments are allowed to break all the rules and this hurts other departments and of course the clients.
It takes 3 years to earn 1 week of vacation time which can only be taken between June and August. During the first half of the month employees aren't really held accountable for being productive but are required to work 60 plus hours a week the last half of the month in hopes of meeting the deadline.
Verbal abuse is quite common from the executive staff.
The health insurance is the only positive quality this company has to offer.
Questionable ethics, doesn't really care about clients, high turnover for bookkeeping staff and tax department, unreasonable dress code.
