Suggestions for improvement
- THE CORPORATE OFFICE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE store locations that are showing a huge decrease in sales/customer satisfaction and locations that are hemorrhaging employees. There is something wrong with the leadership choices in those locations. There is something rotten in the state of Denmark.
What I like about the company
This is the best retail job I've ever had. The clientele is great, I feel like I am selling products I believe in, and I enjoy the vast majority of my coworkers. Most locations have a dog-washing station, you get to see happy pets almost all the time. Also works with various pet shelters as a foster location. Culture is very helpful, very customer-service and customer-education oriented.
What I dislike about the company
The management is highly variable per location...there are many locations, so don't just apply to the closest one and be done with it. ASK AROUND. Ask the employees if they like their manager because honestly the manager has a lot of pull in the way things feel around the store. Look for a clean, well-maintained store where the animals look well cared-for. Stores that have lax employees or look shabby are that way because the manager has lost the respect from the employees. Stores that look that way deserve attention from the corporate office. Also, the pay is poor, but then again, this IS retail and often a good fit for students.
