Company Culture

The owners had a consultant come in (very much like Office Space, if you understand the movie reference if not I'll elaborate). The consultant stood around not doing anything, but writing on a clipboard. Within months many of the workers were let go, including the General Manager who hired me. From my vantage point everybody did their jobs well. Despite that the consultant found their work sub-par. I survived and after hiring new employees, I got to witness first hand that the new employees were horrible. The consultant had left and in his wake the restaurant bled ethics and morale.

Support from management

No support at all, it was every man for themselves and hiding behind skirts of owners when management screwed the pooch.

Teamwork

I had no need of team work in my position.

Freedom to work independently

My position allowed me lots of independence.

Internal Communication

Horrible, I was laid off because they hired new employees in my stead when my father died. The liaison between me and the company did not inform me he was gong on vacation. Neither did the company. When I returned my spot was taken and I was laid off due to lack of hours. The General Manager wrote that on a DHSS document but they are now appealing the unemployment I deserve with lies.

It was not an issue.

Career Development

You will be stuck in that same spot until your fired for not smiling at the supervisor.

Overall compensation for your work

I was paid money. Other then that no compensation as in "Good job" or Employee of the Month.

Office / Work Environment

Work environment was horrid. Most the workers suck and cannot communicate effectively.

Environmental Friendliness

Due to my color and the wish of the Kitchen Leader, he was looking for any issue to get rid of me. But due to my work ethic it took management to stab me in the back.

Work-Life Balance

Like any persons life it depends on that individual to make this balanced not the company.

I haven't a clue

Job Security

Pray every day that you still have your job if you weren't 100 percent perfect and they are looking to get rid of you. On the other hand if your friends with management or supervisors it does not mater how bad you are.

Challenging Work

I was too good at my position for it ever to be challenging.

Inclusive / Diverse

It started off diverse how ever after a consultant had the majority of people let go, I came back to a predominately black work force. The new General Manager was hiring all blacks and the head cook in the kitchen was hiring all black people as well.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Sell the company to new owners who will reset the work force.

What I like about the company

Before the consultant came in and the owners got more involved, the company was great. I got all my work done independently, didn't' have to worry about any consultant or management breathing down my neck.

What I dislike about the company

Untrustworthy, Uncaring, Usury.

Company Culture

The owners abuse the employees labor, and show regularly through their actions that they care about money first and foremost.

Support from management

During my time the managers were the very opposite of hands on and remained in the office most of their time in the building.

Teamwork

Despite the owners terrible qualities, when a good manager is on the floor the team worked well during service.

Internal Communication

The compartmentalization of duties was a constant cause of stress in the workplace. Communication was poor from the top, resulting in civil unrest.

Men and women alike were treated equally inadequately

Career Development

Dead end place. No room for growth or self improvement.

Overall compensation for your work

Not only was I underpaid by about $15,000 per year, but the profit sharing program was terminated before it's first payout.

Work-Life Balance

The owners demanded an extraordinary amount of time from their employees in order to accomplish an excessive amount of poorly organized work.

Job Security

Turnover was high. All 5 of the original management team was fired within the first 2 years of its existence.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I think selling the business and getting it out of the hands of the current owners is the only way to save it.

Everything that the owners contributed was like an inverted Midas Touch.
