Teamwork

Since only 1 person is ever on a shift, employees often did not do their work properly. No one was invested in their co-workers.

Gender Equality

Women were disproportionately represented. Men were excluded almost as soon as the hiring manager determined their gender.

Career Development

I saw no offers of advancement toward anyone while I was there.

Workplace Safety

A number of other stores got robbed, including at gunpoint, while I worked at this location.

Challenging Work

Providing the customers with products to satisfy their needs despite the sensitive nature of the material was very rewarding.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better pay would increase employee retention, and people who work together may form bonds and do better work out of respect for their co-workers. Management could also involve employees further, instead of just faxing in memos to be followed.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed being able to assist customers find products to meet their individual needs. I enjoyed the extra level of responsibility of being the only employee in the store.

What I dislike about the company

The pay was inadequate given the increased job requirements (pay begins at minimum wage). Employees were often not held responsible for the quality of their work.
