A long time ago the department had people who cared. This is no longer the case.
Support from management
The management is bad. They are self serving, demanding, lack compassion and generally have no idea of what they are doing.
Communication does not exist. Everyone works in their own bubble and no one talks amongst each section and barely in their own sections.
If you are one of the favoured people, you can do no wrong. If you are anyone else, you can do no right.
Attitude towards older colleagues
It is every employee for themself.
Good luck getting a promotion or training outside what management decides. Unless, you are one of the chosen. The only career path is to leave.
Overall compensation for your work
Pay is decent, benefits need some help.
While management comes in late, takes two hour lunches and leaves early, everyone else is expected to drop life for what they deem as important.
There is no stability with this place. When one director leaves, run for cover when the new one comes in.
The work itself is not incredibly challenging, working through the policies and politics is.
Suggestions for improvement
- The City needs to clean house and drop the management, restructure the department, remove the endless stream of contractors and hire capable long term employees.
What I like about the company
There was a time that there was a direction, good management and a friendly environment.
What I dislike about the company
There is no communication, bad management, no direction, no vision and no light at the end of the tunnel.
