Company Culture

I like the benefits such as a gym, decent pay, health care, health perks

Support from management

Sometimes my supervisor is not dependable and constituents become upset with me.

Teamwork

Yes, we are all a team and the environment is team-like

Freedom to work independently

My supervisors haven't given me much autonomy at all so that is frustrating for someone like me.

Internal Communication

Newsletter and e-mail

Gender Equality

There are leadership seminars for women, I see many women in leadership roles too

Attitude towards older colleagues

I don't have any insight, but based on other questions I do believe the City does this.

Career Development

There is plenty of training, but for my position there isn't room for growth.

Overall compensation for your work

Yes, I think the pay is decent.

Office / Work Environment

Yes, and maintenance personnel work quickly to fix issues.

Environmental Friendliness

We have recycling bins throughout the buildings.

Work-Life Balance

Yes, my supervisors are very flexible and allow me to make up time lost in case I have an appointment or something come up.

Company Image

Yes, I do think the City is doing a good job.

Job Security

It is stable so long as the same person is the City Representative. Otherwise, I may lose my job when the next person is elected.

Handicapped Accessibility

Yes, handicap citizens can easily access the building. One employee is in a wheelchair

Workplace Safety

Many trainings are offered quarterly.

Challenging Work

The main challenge in my job is dealing with constituents. You hear only complaints, everyone is angry, and everyone wants what they want ASAP. Other than that, it isn't very busy at all.

Inclusive / Diverse

Yes, there diversity is valued.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Overall, I don't think there are any changes the City can make because it is very positive and encouraging.

What I like about the company

I love that my part-time position allows me time off, I can pick up my kids from school, and attend school. If I need to come in late or early due to appointments, I'm able to make up that time. I can work on school at work or other things. My supervisors are very relaxed and knowledgeable about City matters. I also love that there is a gym on site and fitness classes available. In addition, there are ways to earn a little extra money if you're actively getting fit.

What I dislike about the company

My supervisor is extremely knowledgeable, but he isn't very dependable and I understand that is probably because he is a little overwhelmed. However, I am the first person most constituents speak to when they have a concern so when my supervisor doesn't get back to them in a timely manner they get upset and usually with me. I also feel like I have no autonomy at this job. Although I'm told I can schedule meetings or do XYZ, it ends up backfiring when I do. So, I'm hesitant to schedule things or sometimes send Constituent concerns to City Staff for assistance.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Making policies consistent for all depts citywide...one dept can have flex time while another dept can't...one can work 4 ten hour days while another has to work 5 eight hour days, etc...

What I like about the company

Offered good pay and reasonable benefits. Some of the supervisors were awesome!! Lots of focus on employee health and well being!!

What I dislike about the company

The cliques...HR didn't want to get involved because "you aren't here to make friends" which is true, and I agree...you don't need to make friends, but you should at least show respect for others and be professional while you are at work...just my opinion
