You can do what you want until you do something you shouldn't do. You won't get advance guidance.
There is little to no communication to hourly employees about the direction of the organization. You need to read the local newspaper to find out what is going on with the city. Your supervisor does know or does not care to tell you.
You are what you are hired. New jobs go to new people.

People love the organization. We have low turnover.
It is an iron rice bowl. Your schedule will change but you have to behave badly to get shown the door. Get caught stealing is about the only way.
We get quarterly safety videos to watch. Sometimes they are relevant.

- Be more attentive to what is going on within the organization and with staff.
What I like about the company
It is where I live and the organization is friendly. You are fairly compensated and the benefits are nice.
What I dislike about the company
There are few career paths outside of police or fire. You are what you start as. Unless you steal there is nothing done to low-quality employees or managers.
