What I like about the company

It's a community. As an aide I'm learning about classroom management and curriculum planning techniques that could help me advance to classroom teacher. The city provides professional development training & classes to advance your career in the school systems. Everyone helps each other out & has positive relationships in and out of school. There's a little flexibility for working parents.

What I dislike about the company

Paras and aides get paid very little compared to teachers or other faculty & we do so much. Paid time off is scant (3 personal days a year).

Suggestions for improvement

  • In the school environment it is common that the closer one works with the child, the lesser one gets paid. This is a policy that should be looked at.

What I like about the company

I enjoy the people I work with and the children, it is the most rewarding work in the world, though it can be very challenging at times. It is the camaraderie and support of fellow teachers that gets one through the tough days.

What I dislike about the company

Teachers and support staff get very little recognition or support from administrators. If something good happens, they are right there for the photo shoot, even if they don’t even know anything about the project getting recognition. However, if there has been a problem, often resulting from lack of support from administrators, the teacher is held responsible.
