Company Culture

It was a culture of hard work but yet we managed to have some light hearted fun.

Support from management

I believe the intentions were there for some management..again, restructure.

Teamwork

Again, at time of restructure this had not been addressed yet.

Freedom to work independently

I knew my responsibilities , expectations, and requirements . I appreciated the trust that was given to work without direct supervision.

Internal Communication

This was something that I believed could use improvement. That also could have been information did not trickle down which was strictly supervisor relatef.

Gender Equality

I was one of only two females of a department of 30. I don't feel i was always respected individually by management and the men were often revered as stars of the department. Again this is department related.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I never saw someone disrespected by their age. In fact, the knowledge was very much appreciated.

Overall compensation for your work

Benefits were great...compensation, personally I needed to be aggressive in my pursuit of just compensation. Department management had it's agenda therefore I was forced to go to my union .

Office / Work Environment

Although it had it's challenges, it was a pleasant environment to work in. I can say I enjoyed going to work every day.

Work-Life Balance

Never was I expected to work overtime...the city offered many programs to help employees cope with this. They also provided services for other types of personal needs.

Job Security

I felt secure through the restructure even if that meant moving to another area of the city.

Handicapped Accessibility

Never noticed any accommodations for handicapped.

Workplace Safety

For the most part, the department was very safety conscience. There were delays in addressing much larger safety issues due to cost.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better communication. Improve Human Resources accessibility

What I like about the company

I enjoyed my job very much. Most everyone was extremely helpful and pleasant to work with.

What I dislike about the company

Did not feel secure making complaint with HR regarding department management.

Company Culture

Fairness and trust largely depend on which influential management you know.

Support from management

Strong and transparent leadership is lacking. Time and vision are in progress.

Teamwork

Teamwork is lacking.

Freedom to work independently

While input is accepted, it is rarely put into action.

Internal Communication

Communication needs improvement. It is difficult to be an efficient or progressive organization with the lack of direction and communication.

Company Image

Morale is universally extremely low.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Instead of spending millions on outside consultants, fill vacant positions so that the public can receive the service they deserve in a timely manner and staff can perform their jobs well.

What I like about the company

Located in a coastal town, Oxnard has the potential to be a leading employer.

What I dislike about the company

Current budget cuts and hiring freezes have created a workplace that is stressful and discouraging.
