Suggestions for improvement

  • I larger importance on positive culture would go a long way. Policies are always going to be burdensome when compared to the private sector because of unions and legacy. But current culture can be shaped and positively changed. It would go a long way.

What I like about the company

I have encountered several wonderful mentors over the course of my career at the City. They have had an enormous positive impact on my career and I will never forget the path they helped put me on to help me rise to the level I have achieved. I am veryproud of my career and highly recommend a career at the City to others. It has been very rewarding, challenging, and valuable.

What I dislike about the company

There are unique challenges to public sector, specifically to government that cannot be overcome. For example, process change can be cumbersome and burdensome. Things that seem like they should not take more than a month take an inordinate amount of timeto get off the ground. However, I wish that the administration would do more to curb the needlessly combative atmosphere that exists between some departments. That is something I believe could be remedied if properly attended to.

Suggestions for improvement

  • More training outside of the City provided training, more flexible hours in office positions, tuition assistance to encourage people to continue their education.

What I like about the company

I have been allowed to start at an entry level position in all areas since I've been with the City of Tulsa and have learned a lot about those departments. It's lots of room to move around and lots of areas to move to. Good benefits, humble pay.

What I dislike about the company

Upper Management is overpaid, the people who actually do the work are severely underpaid.
