- Your team really makes your experience, so including more corps member input in the process would be nice.
What I like about the company
I could definitely see improvement in the students I worked with, both in their academic performance and their socioemotional growth. Seeing quiet, withdrawn students actually excited about our pull out interventions and insatiably curious about what was going to happen next in the books we read together made me feel like my work was valuable and helped me weather the many challenges that came with serving the population we focus on.
What I dislike about the company
Living on a stipend is hard, and sometimes trainings felt repetitive or even condescending. However, City Year, especially CYSJ, is doing so much to offer various supports to corps members in order to offset the burdens attached to living on low wages. They are also always revamping training based on our frequently solicited feedback.
