Overall compensation for your work
Again, I'm paid a living stipend rather than a salary, so I'm only compensated about $250 a week for 50 hour work weeks.
We have a recycling bin in the office but it's rarely used.
Americorps pays a living stipend of $1000/month rather than a salary, so I currently work 50 hours a week for very little pay and am left with very little time for my personal life.
I'm working a service year as an Americorps member rather than a paid position as an employee, but I feel stable in it for the year of service.
Much of my work involves working in schools, which is very demanding in terms of the students' needs and the expectations of school staff.

My workplace claims to value diversity in the workplace but often reacts negatively to ideas or feedback that they see as dissenting.
Suggestions for improvement
- I would change hiring practices. Many of the people they hire for my capacity are greatly underqualified and underprepared to work with students in urban schools, which carries over negatively to the children and the schools.
What I like about the company
My company enables me to work in a school 5 days a week most weeks of the school year, so I value my ability to do that. The company name also carries strong positive connotation among schools and communities, so feeling like I'm part of something positive and important feels empowering.
What I dislike about the company
The company's focus is working in urban schools to move towards education equity, and occasionally to attract investors the company will engage in some tokenizing behaviors towards our students - for example, they'll have Americorps Members (like me) write stories about successes we've had with students that make it seem like we're responsible for the success, when in reality most of our students find the drive to succeed academically and emotionally on their own.
