Company Culture

Company has very structured and rigorous requirements for the job. Constant evaluation for employees and employees were regularly let go from their jobs without fairness.

Teamwork

Company emphasized whistle blowing, which meant okay to turn in fellow emplyee for not following the rules or making a mistake. This caused an atmosphere of one employee turning against another.

Internal Communication

Given information through email. Work schedule so busy each day that it was difficult to keep up with changes and new information.

Gender Equality

I think women had same career opportunities as males.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I do not think the company recognized the long-serving colleagues for their experience and knowledge in the field. Since the rules kept changing all the time, it is hard to connect with the business of debt counseling in the past.

Career Development

Most of the training was geared toward company goals. I took online training for stress on the job and it was impossible to implement anything they suggested in my work environment.

Overall compensation for your work

I think the pay is average for the field and always paid on time. The work schedule was not always the same. If we had to work on weekends, no overtime. Comp time was given.

Office / Work Environment

I worked in Syracuse branch for over 10 years. Office was relocated to suburbs and no security. Consider the work hours from 7 am to 8 pm at night with times when workers were there alone, not always safe.

Work-Life Balance

It was difficult to get time off, even it you had vacation coming. Company no sympathetic toward family members being ill or change in day care times for employees. Not flexible.

Company Image

The debt counseling service is field that is diminishing today. Many of the credit card companies have their own debt counseling to help clients get out of debt. Employees are very stressed at work and constantly being evaluated and criticized for not meeting very high standards on job. Fear of losing their jobs if they did not make the evaluation. Little time to learn changes and to correct errors.

Job Security

Yes, I went through a couple of mergers with ClearPoint. Save many positions cut and consolidation of departments. No job was stable because constant evaluation with threat of termination if not meeting high standards. Focus of job on sales rather than client issues.

Handicapped Accessibility

The branch where I worked there were no disabled employees. i do not know if they could keep up with job requirements.

Workplace Safety

At the branch I worked for, supervisors were not on site. We had to try to take care of things ourselves.

Challenging Work

Environment for work is constantly changing and expectations are set very high. No time for learning curve for changes. Sometimes put through requirments for job duties that were already in effect and employees were unfairly penalized for not adhering new procedure.

Inclusive / Diverse

Company is based on debt counseling, which is a dying field today. Many of the job duties are based on sales and getting clients. Eventhough agency is labeled a nonprofit, diverse opinions/ideas were not considered.

Suggestions for improvement

  • This type of business seems to be a dying field. Having 2 mergers within about a 2 year period show this. I think the business structure show many attempts to keep revenue coming in from Debt Management packages, which was major source of income. I think it would be better to focus more on clients needs.

What I like about the company

The fellow employees. People worked hard in the constantly changing environment. I enjoyed talking to clients.

What I dislike about the company

Very structured environment. Conversation with clients were heavily scripted and sounded robotic. For a debt counseling service and non profit, focus of services not on client.
