Teamwork

Could do with more willingness to work together.

Attitude towards older colleagues

No one here is 'truly' appreciated. You're expected to do the work just like everyone else.

Career Development

There is absolutely no room for growth here. Again, don't do it.

Overall compensation for your work

No salaries, no benefits, no bonuses. There are yearly pay raises, however.

Office / Work Environment

It's a mill so the environment isn't that great. Would not advise people with asthmatic problems to apply.

Work-Life Balance

The one highlight of working here is that they realize family is important.

Job Security

There is chances of being laid off if the mill gets a new contract or strikes.

Workplace Safety

Safety meetings are held once a month and safety sheets are out every day.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Offer the employees more? Show a little appreciation to the hard workers and do more for them around the holidays.

Company Culture

Being here is like being in high school all over again. There's always someone gossiping and starting rumors about another employee, more than you would expect from a job.

Support from management

There are only two people who actually let you know when you do a good job. Generally the others will just let the boss know when you mess up to make themselves look good.

Freedom to work independently

When there are enough people, the work is evenly divided. When they are short handed, it all ends up on one or two people and depending on what leader is working, they may or may not help get it done.

Internal Communication

The only time you're informed about anything is when you've messed up. If you do a good job and people at your route like you, you won't know it unless they tell you themselves. When you start at this job, you're shown information on the chemicals you'll be using and safety videos and you're expected to learn everything from that. The only meetings the company has are monthly safety meetings.

Attitude towards older colleagues

There is no appreciation or support in this company no matter how old you are but there are a lot of older individuals working with us.

Career Development

There is no career with this job. You're either a janitor or you can try to become a leader and make a dollar more. This job is recommended for people who are retired or kids fresh out of high school or going to college part time.

Overall compensation for your work

There are none and nowadays you don't even start out at minimum wage. When you've been there long enough you'll be making the same as other employees and if you get full time you will have health insurance.

Office / Work Environment

The trailer you punch in and out at isn't the best, but it isn't terrible. You're working in a steel mill so it's not the healthiest environment as is.

Work-Life Balance

You get a weeks paid vacation after working there for a full year. The boss is pretty good about letting you take time off needed to take care of loved ones so long as that privilege is not abused. You may or may not be able to switch your hours depending on which shift you work.

Company Image

There is nothing but negative things said about working here for a reason. It's not a great job, but it's still a job. That's about it.

Job Security

You can easily lose your job during your four month probation period. After that it's a little harder. If the mill decides to go on strike it would be dangerous to try and go in. And if they decide they want their own people back in there, over half of the company will be laid off. It happened once before already.

Handicapped Accessibility

We have nothing of the sort at our trailer but there are no disabled/handicapped employees either.

Workplace Safety

If it's one thing the company excels at, it's safety and the promotion of it. All of the employees have easy access to all of the gear we need and use for the task at hand.

Challenging Work

There are always going to be people who complain about your work no matter how well of a job you do, especially if you forget the smallest thing. Mountains will be made out of any hills.

What I like about the company

What I dislike about the company
