CNA could be a great company but current management is weak and parochial. Independent though is not welcome.

There is no set culture,, it varies department by department.

Support from management

Ha!

Teamwork

It can be collborative sometimes but a very top down organization

There is a lot of second guessing from senior management

The communications are on a need to know basis

They are ok with supporting women but I have seen better

Attitude towards older colleagues

The company skews older but there is nothing supportive or unsupportive towards the demographic

CNA is a club, you do well if you ware in with the in crowd

Overall compensation for your work

The bonuses are good and the 401k is phenomonal

I detest the open office environment

Environmental Friendliness

Recycling is available but I have not seen a commitment to it

Not really

CNA has at times been a great company but it is not right now

Who knows - they like you or they don't, if they don't like you, forget it

I can comment only on my office which is very accessible

Suggestions for improvement

  • They need to overhaul the executive suites. As long as the current group is in charge, CNA will be a very unhealthy company.

What I like about the company

There are a lot of good people, the bonuses are traditionally generous and the 401k is unmatched.

What I dislike about the company

The management team is weak. They predominantly come from one company that was acquired and they have chips on their shoulders. They want everything to be as it was at their old place before the acquisition. There is no creativity and no diversity of thought in senior management.
