Very poor culture. Fargo site management is out for themselves only.
Support from management
They abuse the employee safety groups by asking for suggestions, and then doing something else. No clear goals are ever communicated and all employees (hourly to middle staff) are expected to do several jobs at once and are disciplined for not keeping up.
Hourly works together good. Management are basically stabbing each other in the back when they get a chance.
Freedom to work independently
No trust for lesser level employees. You work for a manager that constantly belittles you and rides you most of the time.
Communication is poor in the Fargo plant. Rumors are a constant, including whether or not you have a job.
I would say that gender is equal in the plant.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Fargo plant has had many issues with hiring older employees. They just don't want them. Older employees (staff/hourly) tend to be pushed out or put into situations that would get them removed from the company. This has been constant for the last 15 years.
Tuition reimbursement is offered to all employees with a one year staff after completing courses. No training within the plant to improve employee status, especially with hourly. Your stuck forever.
Overall compensation for your work
With the increased work getting bigger and bigger, no compensation is given to staff or hourly. Staff has not had a pay raise in years at the Fargo plant, unless you move into another position. Hourly is union contracted yearly. Most staff grumble about their situation to hourly.
Office / Work Environment
Office environment is suited and comfortable to work. Shop floor has no air conditioning or heating for hourly. Summer time can get to 115 degrees and winter down to 50 degrees or colder in some areas.
Company forces employees to recycle in order to take the recycle money and purchase food items for higher staff and HR. Seen it done quite a few times.
Family life is not company's concern. Employees that do not "volunteer" to work overtime put on a black list. Staff is included in this.
At one time, yes. For the last 10 years, no. The company has abused the World Class Management program to pretend the plant is using lean manufacturing practices. In reality, they babysit auditors, put in false numbers to show improvement and hide a lot of things out in their cold storage warehouse. The Fargo plant is about appearances, not real numbers, so most hourly and staff are frustrated by "faking it" for the audits.
No job security at all. A staff member was recently fired for being 69 basically, even though he worked hard and kept up. Some hourly that do not volunteer to work overtime are blacklisted and disciplined for whatever little issues they can find, while overtime employees seem to get away with things. It is the "buddy system" at the Fargo plant.
For the most part, yes. But they do not want handicap people working on the shop floor at all.
Workplace safety has become a joke at the Fargo plant for hourly. Company denies the fact that repetitive injuries are on the rise due to overworking employees. There are OSHA violations that are hidden and employees are climbing on units without fall protection. Employees that complain are singled out by management. This has happened to staff and hourly equally.
Most employees are proud of what they do, but there is a constant feeling among all employees that they are just a number to be discarded when used up.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity for hourly on the shop floor is great! Diversity as far as minorities does not really ever happen. With the exception of one person, all other staff are made up of Caucasian only employees...and they keep it that way.
Suggestions for improvement
- Eliminate most of management, except very top. Start with those in the WCM section and then work on Safety and HR.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
Management uses Buddy System, unfair diversity hiring for management, no fair compensation for work, treatment of older employees and singling out employees that want a fair system.
