The first 4 hours of my first day were "rules". Not allowed coffee at desk, not allowed to touch furniture (ex: resting your arms on divider walls to talk to co-workers), no personal items allowed on desks, ALL employees punch a time clock for arrival, departure, and for lunch. (I was 3 minutes late one morning, and within 5 minutes, HR walked over to my desk to find my reason for tardiness). Prohibited from walking on the grass outside, or walking in parking lot through any area other than "designated walk ways". Doctor appointments were handled with vacation time. When vacation time and 2 days of sick time was used up, any amount of absence went unpaid, even as a salaried employee. For those who had never worked anywhere else, they saw no issues with this sort of environment. Having worked elsewhere, I learned to obey the rules, but could not adapt to the culture.
Suggestions for improvement
- Lighten up on all the rules and restrictions.
