Suggestions for improvement
- Please please please pay Community Assistants more. We're willing to do the work, be the face, handle all complaints, send all leases, solve most problems, build relationships and work back-breaking hours and tasks during Turn, but please pay us more than minimum wage. We hold over for the leasing season/commission. That's what makes it affordable to stay here. Don't take away the little we have and call it equality, while pushing renewal leases and giving credit that's not due to higher ups.
What I like about the company
The staff in the office, both the managers and the CAs, are the best group I've ever worked with. Everyone is close and many of us are friends outside of work. I get great help from 4/5 managers. I love hosting the events for the residents and getting to know everyone that comes in the door. I also like a challenge, and this job has plenty of them.
What I dislike about the company
When I was first hired, I was told it usually takes about year to be comfortable with everything. It has a steep learning curve, because there are so many possible variations and things for you to do/learn. I love challenges, working hard and helping people. This job has allowed me to do that for almost a year, and that's been great. The pay, however, is not worth the work. I have another job supplementing this one, and it's still barely enough. The company treats managers wonderfully, but it doesn't care about the expendable bottom. In the past, there was a discount on rent for working in the leasing office. There isn't anymore. Last year, there was a $25 commission for both renewals and new leases (nothing for subleases). This leasing year, we still get $25 for a new lease, however... Renewal leases are put into a pot to be "equal" with the managers and maintenance. Managers and maintenance make twice as much as we do, already. They even get twice the amount in the "equal" pot as we do. We make $0.89 per renewal, compared to $25. Also, subleases now get commission, but we're no longer allowed to do them. A single manager does them all now and makes all of the commission. The managers just got a $500+ bonus from the company for just changing hands. We haven't gotten any bonuses for harder work or time spent with the company. Besides the PM and AA, CAs do the most amount of work. Managers are supposed to handle complains, but they avoid angry residents. We handle them. We build the relationships with residents and send their leases. The residents rarely meet the maintenance staff, but they were praised for their superior customer service, over us, by someone that visited for one day from corporate, recently. That same person from corporate also said that if people can't afford the new rent, they can go elsewhere....We, as your employees, can not afford your new higher rent. There's a systemic problem here.
