Have many different cultures represented in our staff and teachers

My principal is not supportive and shows only apathy towards staff and teachers

Inspite of the principal staff gets along. But there is always a high turnover every year

HR says principal can do what she wants so you never know what she will do to someone

I'm a disabled veteran and in times I need my cane she get furious. She does not want canes or wheelchairs

The job is challenging because the school is a high transient poverty stricken area but rewarding

Inclusive / Diverse

Because the school is primarily African American she prefers African American staff

Suggestions for improvement

  • The principal has been there for 26 years and I think that has been too long. The school is rough and riddled with apathy from the leadership. The children are amazing and should be surrounded by empathy instead.

What I like about the company

It is a large company and the leadership has made strides of improvement. They actively push to increase benefits and pay.

What I dislike about the company

When there are high employee turnover multiple years in a row I feel they need to evaluate and make improvements to that school leadership.

This is a great place to work.

Some of the specialized administrators at the county level should be more hands on at the school level to get a better understanding of what teachers are dealing with.

Company Culture

School System is very large. Very disconnected from educators.

Support from management

Again, administration was unable to fulfill all of their responsibilities due to the overwhelming amount of duties given to them.

Teamwork

Encouragement is given but not enough support when co-workers are faced with challenging situations.

Freedom to work independently

Employees are trusted to use their education and experience to independently make decisions and problem-solve.

Internal Communication

Administration was too overwhelmed to handle all of the responsibilities they are given. Teachers are expected to follow "status quo" when issues arise even when these situations require a different solution.

Work-Life Balance

Too much required with not enough support. Not possible to meet standards working within the contract working hours.

I was very proud to work for this school system.

Workplace Safety

Excellent opportunities for specialized training in case of emergencies.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Smaller class sizes are needed and more support staff. Smaller schools where administrators are able to effectively perform all of their duties. More funding for special education services. More support services for teachers to retain quality educators that are leaving the education field due to the lack of support and the time and stress of educating our youth in this day and age.

What I like about the company

Working for the CCBOE has allowed me the opportunity to work with children in an educational environment where students are provided with the access to technology and the materials needed to successfully achieve their educational goals. As a very large educational system in Georgia, it must adhere to a large business like structure and the school environment reflects that necessity. Teachers are provided a safe and educationally conducive environment to teach a diverse population that resides in this county just north of Atlanta.

What I dislike about the company

The inability to constructively support teachers when a variety of situations arose that needed administrative attention.

  • Facility needs updating as well as technology improvements could be made. More parental involvement would be great.

I work with great people. My leadership team is supportive.
