Instead of positive reinforcement, the key is negative reinforcement to promote motivation.
Support from management
Owners cause conflict, they treat their employees with amazing hostility.
Teamwork between the individual people in the administration department is great, but do not try to make decisions on your own, or tell anyone you've worked together as a department to help each other out.
Freedom to work independently
You stick to only what your job functions are, and don't get caught helping someone who is overwhelmed and not in your department.
You are given a minimal amount of information to complete a task. Don't ask questions mid-project. When completed and turned in, if it's not exactly what they had in mind, you were obviously not capable of doing it to begin with.
There are women in the office and out in the field, but they are still treated differently than their male counterparts.
There is zero opportunity for advancement. Instead of promoting from within for a job you know you can do because you've done it before, they will hire someone externally and have you train them.
Overall compensation for your work
Pay is good for the area, benefits are good but expensive. However, if you received a raise and they don't feel you deserve it, they will remind you and say they never authorized it.
Office / Work Environment
Computers are newer, office is generally quiet when management isn't present.
They really dislike getting fines for air quality violations, so they do what they can to avoid that.
Working hours are normal, but if you need extra time to complete your work, they will be very upset about paying any form of overtime. A few employees would come in on weekends or take work home just to avoid the double conflict of not having it done or having them complain about overtime. When a salaried employee had a heart attack and needed to use all his vacation, that was an issue; same when another employee, this time hourly, had a heart attack less than a year later. "It's not our fault they don't take care of themselves, vacation isn't for heart attacks, and they didn't follow procedure of filing out a request form at least two days before taking vacation."
I have never known anyone in this company, past or present that speaks fondly of management. They all love their jobs, but management is insufferable.
You can be fired at any time for anything, and since Idaho is a right to work state, there's not much you can do. They like to remind you of this when they feel your performance is not up to standards (but that door doesn't swing both ways).
Great safety director, very on top of making sure no one gets hurt, however, having your crews work 12-16 hour days (and occasionally in the dark) can cause accidents.
Work is very challenging, it's a fast paced industry, something is different every day. However, being commended for a job well done and in a timely manner is completely lost on them.
Inclusive / Diverse
No diversity. They say they want to hear your feedback at company meetings and Christmas parties, then you find out later that they think your ideas would never work, and that's why they're owners and you're not.
