Suggestions for improvement
- Hire more staff and faculty (not adjunct faculty; full-time faculty); trim the jobs at the administration level....as far as I can tell, the majority of them are NOT needed; administration needs to work with staff and faculty before making decisions because administration doesn't have a clue of what goes on below them - get advice from the experts that deal with these things day in and day out; increase the pay grade of staff positions; offer more vacation time for employees when they hit 15 and 20 year marks - it is ridiculous that an employee has to wait 15 more years to earn more vacation time.
What I like about the company
I obtained my AAS, AS, BS, and MS almost 100% paid for by my employer; I am enrolled in the SERS retirement plan (one of the best around); I have lots of sick and vacation time; I work roughly 2-3 miles from my home; I have fairly flexible hours and a great work schedule (four 9 hour days; one 4 hour day); the job itself is motivating - working with students and watching them mature, graduate, and obtain a good job; the job, at times, can be challenging, but for the most part, it is a very laid-back environment; casual dress code (jeans). This is why I have stayed for over 17 years - I don't think there is another organization I would be as content with working.
