Company Culture

Seems to be confused on whether it's a conservative or liberal company. Pick one.

Support from management

Management is helpful depending on who you ask. They do not involve you in decisions and most of the time forget to tell anyone below upper management that changes have been made. Makes for some embarrassing moments showing the lack of communication a newspaper company has

Teamwork

Once the herds been filtered it makes for a great group to work with

Work-Life Balance

Plenty of off time to reflect on how little money you have

Job Security

Not thinking this is for The long term. A company that still has furloughs....newspapers though. Honestly it's a slow death.

Challenging Work

Depends on the day. The work load is constantly changing depending on what they feel like is important that month

Suggestions for improvement

  • Think of people below upper management. If they do care it doesn't show.

What I like about the company

Coworkers are great and when you need time off there's plenty.

What I dislike about the company

Because of all the time off everyone gets the work gets behind. Having people take random days slows the ones who are at work. Plus the work piles up when gone so most times it's not worth taking the time

Suggestions for improvement

  • Sell to a competently managed forward-thinking media company.

What I like about the company

Truly no positive attributes in working for this company, they have zero compassion or concern for any employee.

What I dislike about the company

Continue to force employees to one month unpaid furlough over 12 month period. Ongoing for 6 years while other media companies have improved financially since.

Company Culture

there is no company culture

Support from management

The company is heavily leveraged and the lender is on the board of directors.

Teamwork

Teamwork only exists within specific departments.

Freedom to work independently

only within specific departments.

Internal Communication

For a newspaper company, there is a surprising lack of communication.

Gender Equality

CNHI treats all workers equally, no matter the gender, age, or ADA condition.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Seniors/tenured employees are not always given the respect deserved for their experience(s).

Career Development

CNHI is a good place to start a job, although not always a good place to start a career. There are no internal job postings for any openings - all are filled externally.

Overall compensation for your work

Paychecks are paid promptly, according to federal & state law. Many positions are at a minimum wage level.

Office / Work Environment

CNHI complies with most OSHA requirements.

Environmental Friendliness

There are some paper recycling bins available on most properties.

Work-Life Balance

work-life balance is poor; the job tends to take over one's life.

Company Image

The image of family owned/operated newspapers is no longer valid under the current leadership.

Job Security

There is no true stability, especially considering the technological advances which have led to the downturn in newspaper readership & advertising.

Handicapped Accessibility

CNHI complies with federal and state laws and regulations.

Workplace Safety

Training is limited. There are, unfortunately, frequent accidents.

Challenging Work

The sense of accomplishment depends heavily upon the worker and feedback, if any, from the supervisor/manager and management team. A self starter can gain some valuable experience that may be taken to another employer.

Inclusive / Diverse

There is no diversity program, per se, as CNHI is not bound by federal or state law to have one.

Suggestions for improvement

  • A different leadership team or ownership may be needed to change the company climate.

What I like about the company

CNHI is sometimes the only job source in a small community. In this capacity, CNHI will provide valuable experience to those just entering the workforce.

What I dislike about the company

For someone with some work experience or talent, this is not the employer to choose to develop and grow.
