Job security

Typically there was job security. However lay odds were not handles fairly or appropriatly. Many poor people remain at company, and many good people were laid off or chose to leave because the poor people and more specifically bad managers remained.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Get rid of the huge group of unnecessary managers. Too many management theirs and most of them are not any good. Stop the system of promoting political players who are just interested in their career. Find people who understand the technical and essential details, and promote them. ConocoPhillips has so many managers that need eliminated, especially the high level choke point managers who place lower level managers. For instance there are exploration managers who have never discovered any oil, unconventional managers who have never worked unconventionals, development managers who have never drilled a well, self centered managers who don't a lead their teams but just look for their next promotion, managers who just seek work high budget programs instead of decreasing the out of control spending in that program, and cost control managers who have never successfully managed a program.
